Christ Church Repair Fund
Christ Church is a beautiful building on Lancaster's skyline, and is home to a vibrant, inclusive, worshipping community who seek to serve the local area.
Over its 165 years, the church has welcomed thousands of people through its doors and many Lancastrians treasure memories of Weddings, Christenings, Carol services and Children's Church in this graceful, holy place. Christ Church has a big role in our local community, running a winter Night Shelter for homeless people; hosting school assemblies, groups and organisations, as well as marking Remembrance Sunday and other important events.
Built by Samuel Gregson MP as a chapel to the nearby workhouse and grammar school, the building tells some of Lancaster's story - with work from local architects Austin and Paley; and stained glass from the renowned workshop of Shrigley and Hunt.
But urgent repair work is needed to the church porch to stop the stone deteriorating further and enable it to welcome the next generation. We need to raise £10,000 for a specialist to repoint and reset the stones so that it is weatherproof again and restored to its former glory.
We receive no government funding or central church funds towards maintenance work. We have already raised over £4000 of this target, and have also applied for grants to help. Can you support Christ Church reach this goal?
Rev Carol is doing a sponsored walk across Morecambe Bay Sands, and there are several other fundraising events planned over the summer as lockdown lifts.
